How many species of dolphins are there?
There are currently around 40 species of dolphin in existence in the wild which belong to
17 different taxonomical genera. This is a number which is subject to change as there
are currently debates surrounding whether all killer whales actually belong to the same
species, or whether there are different variations of them.
